Crown Green
Crown is proud to be a provider of the world’s most sustainable roofing material. Concrete roof tiles embody green attributes that very few building materials can claim and create value far beyond what other roofing materials could possibly hope to achieve. (See: Green Roofs-Crown.pdf)
•Low-impact manufacturing utilizes naturally occurring raw materials consisting of approximately 75 % sand and 25% cement to make a product capable of remaining in service for many decades.
•The long life of a tile roof reduces the likelihood of reroofing disposal but if and when the time comes, tiles are recyclable with potential for crushing into aggregate for new manufacturing or road base. Asphalt shingles on the other hand contribute over 11 million tons of petroleum based debris into American landfills every year.
•Bulk raw materials are sourced close to our manufacturing facilities to minimize transportation emissions as well as fuel consumption.
•Concrete tile has the lowest life-cycle costs of any roofing material based on its long service life and affordable initial installation cost. Tile roofs are expected to last over fifty years whereas asphalt shingles would normally be replaced two to three times during that same time period.
•Energy efficiency is achieved through a combination of thermal mass, above-sheathing ventilation and surface reflectivity that effectively prevents heat from entering a building through the roof. Depending on installation method, a Crown tile roof can reduce transfer of heat into the attic by 40-70% when compared to asphalt shingles. (See RCI Cool Tile-Final.pdf) This energy efficiency dramatically reduces energy costs associated with cooling costs in hot seasons while the ventilated installation system also provides protection from ice-damming in colder regions.
•While tile roofs have always added an aura of quality to a home, they now signify a responsible commitment to our environment. Beyond being the most attractive roofing material, tile roofs can now be considered the most practical and sustainable component that your construction project can employ.
